Written In Bones: How Human Remains Unlock the Secrets of the Dead

Archaeology is the anthropological study of past human culture. Archaeologists seek to describe the cultural behaviors of past humans, from our earliest ancestors who walked the savannas in Africa several million years ago to our recent ancestors who populated the cities and farmsteads of our land just 100 years ago. In studying these behaviors, archaeologists must rely on scant clues procured from the material culture left behind by humans that once occupied and used the area. Archaeological study is an interplay between archaeological data (sites, features, artifacts, and ecofacts), the people who occupied the site and left the data, and the archaeologists, who must interpret the data to reconstruct the culture and behaviors of the past humans to the best of his or her capabilities.

This site is an introduction to the science of archaeology, and is intended for the education of people who want to learn about archaeology. This site should be particularly useful for students who are interested in pursuing a career in archaeology. The site is organized into the following sections:

Q & A - real questions about archaeology answered by a real archaeologist

Career in Archaeology - have you ever wondered what it would be like?

Archaeology Resources - great internet resources for archaeologists

Archaeology Books - excellent titles for sale from Amazon.com

Enjoy your visit to the Archaeology Info website! Bookmark this site and come back often. The best part of this site is that you can interact with a real archaeologist by asking questions about archaeology, or about what archaeologists do, or about a career in archaeology.
